Scholarships
Together with the Center for Insurance Education and Research, the Center for Financial Services offers a number scholarships. The purpose of these awards and scholarships is to recognize a number of worthy students who have either:
- achieved scholastic success in courses or programs offered by the Department of Finance, Real Estate, and Insurance, or
- demonstrated an interest in financial services and insurance through an internship with a financial services or an insurance company or by successfully completing one or more courses of the following:
- Principles of Insurance, FIN 336
- Risk Management, FIN 431
- Theory and Practice of Financial Planning, FIN 442
- or Wills, Trusts and Estates, BLAW 409
Requirements and Criteria for Selection for Scholastic Success:
- Junior or senior who has achieved scholastic success in courses or programs offered by the Department of Finance, Real Estate, and Insurance with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or above.
- Leadership and community service will be considered.
Requirements and Criteria for Selection for Demonstrated Interest in Financial Services or Insurance:
- Junior or senior majoring in business or economics with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.
- Successful completion of an internship with a financial services or an insurance company, or satisfactory completion of a financial services course such as Principles of Insurance, FIN 336; Risk Management, FIN 431; Theory and Practice of Financial Planning, FIN 442; or Wills, Trusts and Estates, BLAW 409, or equivalent.
- Academic achievement and leadership activities will be considered.
Depending on the number and merit of applicants, it is anticipated that several awards of $500 or more will be provided.
Selection Process: The Fall 2007 application deadline is Friday, October 19, 2007. The winners will be chosen by a Committee selected by the Director of the Center for Financial Services and the Director of Center for Insurance Education and Research.
